Shorin Ryu Karate Do International (SRKDI) : Honoring Tradition, Embracing Growth
SRKDI brings together dojos and practitioners of Okinawan karate from around the world, united by a shared commitment to growth, collaboration, and excellence. While we deeply respect the traditions of karate, we believe that true mastery requires continuous reflection and evolution. By exchanging ideas, training methods, and teaching insights, we strengthen our dojos, our students, and ourselves. This spirit of mutual learning defines what it means to be in association with fellow karateka.
Our training emphasizes kihon, kata, bunkai, drills, kumite, and kobudo. Through the careful study of kata applications, we understand that traditional karate is more than just strikes—it also includes throws, sweeps, takedowns, joint locks, and grappling. We analyze techniques within the context of practical self-defense, ensuring that every movement has purpose and effectiveness. When evaluating a technique, we first ask: In what context does this apply? What is effective in one situation may not be appropriate in another. This depth of analysis helps us uncover the full scope of traditional karate.
We believe that tradition remains strong and relevant when it evolves in a thoughtful and meaningful way. As we internalize karate’s principles and techniques, we shape them through the lens of our own lived experiences. SRKDI is dedicated to studying, preserving, and strengthening traditional Okinawan karate—ensuring that future generations will not only honor its legacy but also embrace, refine, and advance it.
